- Key feature here are the neutrophils. EEE in horses is consistently described in the literature as encephalitis with perivascular cuffs containing large numbers of neutrophils, this does not happen with other equine encephalitides such as WNV or Rabies. It is still unclear why a Togavirus is so chemotactic for neutrophils, but that is the typical histological finding.
