    • Simian lentivirus infection in Asian macaques results in suppression of cell-mediated immunity. In affected maaques, lentivirus infection by itself results in giant cell pneumonia, in this case, complicated by Pneumoncystis carinii infection (a ubiquitous pulmonary pathogen which is controlled by cell-mediated immunity.)
